Eglin Team 3
Initial System:
Our intial design consisted of two helium-neon gas laser corresponding with 2 5mm photodiode receiver modules. The receivers are attached to a custom made bracket and are powered by a 2-channel power supply.
Components:
Lasers
The lasers used in the velocity measurement will be two JDS Uniphase helium-neon gas lasers. The lasers will produce a continuous 0.5 mW beam of red light with a 634 nm. The laser is classified as class II which mean that it can be operated with out any safety equipment.
Detectors
The velocity system will use two Edmund Optics photodiode receiver modules to process the laser signals. The photodiode modules consist of a power supply, a photodiode, and a set of operational amplifiers. The photodiode selected is a silicon p-n type with a circular effective area that has a diameter of 5 mm.
Alignment
A new bracket will be used to attach to the mounting device. It will restrict the detectors one degree of freedom less compared to the original bracket.
